Dr. Kartikeya Sangal, Ophthalmologist, Apollo Spectra Hospital, Delhi, said, “Prolonged exposure to sunlight increases the chances of corneal irritation, cataract, and retinal damage. Ocular burns due to excessive heat. And macular degeneration can also occur. Apart from this, problems like itching, burning, blurring of vision and dry eyes can also occur.

People who stay in the sun for a long time, their eyes sticky and watering. Problems can also occur. Apart from this, the problem of allergies and conjunctivitis in the eyes also increases in the summer season. Dr. Kartikeya Sangal says that, in the summer season, there can be various types of problems related to the eyes which can be as follows-

  • eye flu
  • dry eye
  • eye infection
  • watery eyes
  • Conjunctivitis Redness of eyes etc.

What are the summer eye care tips?

According to Dr. Sangal, such problems are seen more in the age group of 35-55. In most people, due to increased heat, problems like uveitis, itching, redness and burning of eyes, watery eyes, red eyes, and corneal irritation. According to experts, every year 4-5 patients suffering from serious problems related to eyes come for OPD treatment. But in the period January to April this year, more than 20 patients suffering from eye-related problems have come here for treatment. With the increasing heat, the number of people suffering from eye problems is increasing. In such a situation, people can take such measures to keep their eyes safe-

  • Take glasses with you before going out in the sun and go out in the sun only wearing glasses.
  • Drink more quantity of water.
  • To protect the eyes, know the sun from cool places and do not go directly to the AC room after coming from the sun. This sudden change in temperature can cause damage to the eyes.
  • Take care of cleanliness. Do not touch your eyes repeatedly with your hands.
  • Do not allow anyone else to use the makeup items used for your eyes and do not use anyone else’s makeup yourself.
  • If you wear lenses, remove the lenses before sleeping.
  • Keep drinking enough water to avoid the problem of dry eyes.
  • After returning home from outside, clean the eyes and face with cold water.
  • Avoid using rose water or any other commercial products in the eyes, as it can cause serious eye problems.
