Does Water Also Expire?

Tap water can be kept for up to 6 months. Although its taste can change over time, it is still considered safe to drink if stored properly.

Does the water keep in the bottle also expire?

Although not required, bottled water is usually printed with an expiry date. Over time, plastic can begin to dissolve in bottled water, which can negatively affect your health.

Bottled water should be stored in a cool place away from direct sunlight and separated from household cleaning supplies and chemicals.

According to a Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) study, researchers found that participants who drank water from popular polycarbonate bottles, hard-plastic drinking bottles, and baby bottles for a week had the chemical bisphenol in their urine samples. A two-thirds increase in A (BPA) was observed.  

According to research, treated tap water can be consumed for 6 months if stored properly, while sparkling water is safe for 1 to 2 years. Tap water can start to taste strange if tap water mixes with carbon dioxide in the air. Also, carbonated tap water becomes flat after a while as the gases in the water begin to evaporate.

Water Quality Test

While it’s not a perfect test, your senses are usually the most reliable tool to tell if your water has gone bad. Some common symptoms of contaminated water include staining and water with a strange taste or smell. 

But, it’s often your sense of taste that can tell the difference – as long as it gets to that sense, you can only spit it out! If your bottled water has a chemical taste, it is not safe to consume.
